Inexplicable indeed.
Getting excited by receiving one of these e-mails is bad enough- but the people who organise (I'm using UK spellings for this post) these moron-a-thons are the worst of the bunch.
Let's be clear- I don't object to people gathering and making friends. Being told to gather is something else entirely. The first time this was funny. Now all the spontaneity has been sucked out of it as this email demonstrates.
I can only hope it's a trick to get all the sheep in one place so they can be carted away to Guantanamo.
